      Wedding Caused Sensation
Du Pont Marriage was Made Possible by Two Divorces

Wilmington, Oct. 16. A sensation was created among society people here today when the marriage of Alfred I. Du Pont, Vice President of the powder company, to Mrs. Alicia Bradford Maddox, the divorced wife of his former private secretary.

Many members of the wealthy Du Pont family are said to be dissatisfied with the marital affairs fo the groom.

Mr. Du Pont secured the divorce from his first wife at Sioux Falls, S.D., on Dec. 8 last, on the grounds of "extreme cruelty and inhumane treatment." When a reporter called at the residence of Bessie Gardner Du Pont today the caretaker said that Mrs. Du Pont - she retains her married name - was in Canada with her two older daughters.

"I am sure Mrs. Du Pont knew nothing about the plans of her former husband," said the caretaker.

George Amory Maddox has not been connected with the Du Pont company for some months. Mrs. Maddox began an action for divorce in the Superior Court here last April. Subsequently the application was withdrawn. It is understood she went to South Dakota and was granted the divorce, thus duplicating the action of her present husband.
