Young Du Pont A Suicide
Odgen, Utah, Oct. 4 - Gerald F. du Pont, aged 22, son of Maurice du Pont, the powder manufacturer of Wilmington, Del. committed suicide here today, shortly after leaving a hospital where he had been for the past several days suffering from a nervous breakdown. The tragedy occurred while he was out with Miss Marian Browning.
Du Pont came west for his health a short time ago, preparatory for enlisting upon an American submarine Chase.

Young Du Pont Wanted To Enter Service
Asheville, Oct. 10 Keen disappointment because he could not enter the service of his country is believed to have been largely responsible for the suicide of Gerald F. DuPont, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice du Pont of this city, who committed suicide at Ogden Utah recently. Letter found by his mother since her return and other letters written to friends here, showed that the young man had tried to enter three different branches of the fighting service and had been rejected in each instance because of his health. . He had gone west in hopes of improving his health to the point where he could join Uncle Sam's fighters.
