  • Notes
    • "In 1808, Jesse wrote a letter to his brother announcing the had found a place in the country the wanted to buy. He named the place Avalon. According to the articles of agreement of October 27, 1813, which hang framed in the study, Frances Hollingsworth of Pipe Creek, builder of the house, sold the farm and improvements and about 220 acres to Jesse Slingluff."

When Jesse died, the property passed to his son, Isaac, and later to Isaac's son, Louis Philip. When Louis died, the property was sold to a family named Barrick, who held it until 1935 when it was sold to F. Donald Shriver, a Slingluff descendant. Shriver later sold the property to Robert Lee Slingluff.
