Requiem Mass for John McCandless, 59, of 300 Newport Pike, a well-known singer of this city, will be said at 9:30 tomorrow morning in St. Matthew's Church, Woodcrest. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery. There will be no viewing and friends are asked to omit flowers.
Mr. McCandless died early yesterday afternoon at his home after a three months' illness.
A bass-baritone, Mr. McCandless had sung in St. Elizabeth's Church choir for six years, and was a charter member of teh first bebershop quartet formally organized in Brandywine Hundred some years ago. He also had appeared as soloist and group singer before many civic functions. Among his other activities, Mr Mccandless was a member of Bishop Monaghan Council, Knights of Columbus.
Mr. McCandless is surviced by his wife, Mrs. Beatrice M. McCandless; four children: Mrs; Carl Tucker of Akron, O; Mrs. Audrey C. Wood, Lexington, Ky.;John J. and William Eric, both at home; a brother, William H. McCandless of Wilmington, and two sisters, Mrs. George Porter , Christiana, and Mrs. Anton W. Benson, Smyrna.
