      Mary Springer Evans Dies Monday at Reading

      Mrs. Harold Evans, who was Miss Mary Jo Springer of Kokomo before her marriage, died Monday at 6 a.m. at the Reading, Pa., hospital after a long illness, She had been ill of cancer for two years.

      Mrs. Evans, who was 56, was the daughter of Mrs. Catharine Springer of Kokomo. Her father, who has been dead a number of years, was D. C. Springer.

      Mr. Evans is president of the American Casualty Co., He and Mrs. Evans met while attending DePauw University and were married following their graduation there.

      Remembered by her friends here as a charming and attractive girl, Mrs. Evans was graduated from Kokomo High School. In Wyomissing she was active in the Junio League and the YWCA board, She was a member of the Lutheran Reformed Church.

      Surviving with the mother and the husband are two daughters, Mrs. John L. Guthrie, Portland, Ore., and Mrs. James M. Gassaway, Philadelphia, Pa., a son, George Evans, Reading, Pa., a brother, Robert Springer, Indianapolis, and 11 grandchildren.
