      Mr. Ralph Thomas Coe, 88, of Coe Drive, New Windsor, died Tuesday night, Aug. 21, at Carroll County General Hospital, Westminster, after a brief illness. Born in Carroll County, Mr. Coe was a son of the late John and Virginia Bowers Coe and father of the late Ellsworth Coe. Mr. Coe's first wife was the late Carrie Poole Coe.

      Mr. Coe was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in New Windsor and, before his retirement, was the owner and president of D.P. Smelser and Son in New Windsor. He was a director of the New Windsor State Bank for 24 years, former president and charter member of New Windsor Fire Company, former member and president of New Windsor Lions Club for 35 years, and a past director of the Carroll County Heart Associaton. He was also a member of the New Windsor, Union Bridge and Church of the Open Door Senior Citizens, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a helper with the SOS campaign. Mr. Coe helped organize and was a player on the old Wakefield ball team and was a member of the Old Timers Baseball Association.

      He is survived by his second wife, Pearl B. Coe; four daughters, Vivian Warner of Lewistown, Betty Bonn of New Windsor, Ruth Curfman of New Windsor and Catherine Canfield, Orlando, Fla.; four sisters, Grace Royer, Pauline Crumbacker and lone Baust, all of Westminster, and Blanche Mackley, York, Pa.; one brother, John Coe, Westminster; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, New Windsor. Mr. Coe's pastor, the Rev. Merritt A. Copenhaver, will officiate. Interment will be in Pipe Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Thomas D. Fletcher & Son Funeral Home, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.
