Mr. Maurice Martin Devilbiss, 92, of 15102 New Windsor Road, near Oak Orchard, died Friday, March 19, at Carroll County General Hospital, Westminster, after an illness of one week.
Born Jan 15, 1901, in Frederick County, he was a son of the late Willie S. and Ella Barnes Devilbiss. Twice married, his first wife was the late Estella Lowman Devilbiss, who died in 1948. His second wife was the late Julia Garber Devilbiss, who died in 1985.
Mr. Devilbiss was a member of the Edgewood Church of the Brethren. He was a farmer and orchard grower. He worked for several years at the Medford Grocery Co. prior to the purchase of The Cold Spring Store, which he owned and operated for 40 years, until his retirement in 1990 He was a longtime member of the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Co.
Surviving are one daughter, Regina Bowersox of Williamsport; one son, William A. Devilbiss of near New Windsor; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one son, Frank E. Devilbiss in 1991. He was the last of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, at the New Windsor Funeral Home of D.D. Hartzler. His pastor, the Rev. Bruce Weaver will officiate. Interment will be in Linganore Cemetery, Unionville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 24* and 7-9 p.m. Monday, March 22.
