    Notes:

One of the more commonly seen mistakes in the Grubb genealogy is the naming of John's wife as Frances Vane, daughter of Sir Henry Vane. Sir Henry did in fact have a daughter named Frances but she was never married to John Grubb.

As the common story goes, Frances Vane was born in 1642, first married Edward Kewkewich of Minhincot, Cornwall and became a Quaker. After Edward?s death, she married John Grubb in Cornwall about 1675 and came to America with John. Supposedly, her money enabled John to purchase land upon their arrival.

The truth is a bit simpler. Frances was married to Edward and was buried next to him when she died on June 4, 1683. A quick look at John's will, signed in February of 1798, mentions his wife Frances directly and leaves a substantial portion of his estate, so it is quite obvious that the already deceased daughter of Sir Henry Vane could not be John Grubb's wife.
