  [S268] NEWS: The News, Frederick, A-3 (Reliability: 3), 19 Jan 1979. Mr. Granville Eugene Roop. M. of S Prospect Road. Mount Airy, died at Carroll County General Hospital, Westminster, Thursday, Jan. 18, after an illness of several weeks. He was born Aug. 7, 1894, in Carroll County, a son of the late John Hamilton and Annie Devilbiss Roop. His wife, Helen Anna Gilbert Roop, predeceased him in 1972. Surviving are one daughter. Mrs. Eugenia R. Gartrell, Mount Airy; three grandchildren; two sisters, Miss Anna E. Roop and Miss Bessie Roop, both of New Windsor; one brother, Howard C. Roop, New Windsor. He was a member of Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren, and a veteran of World War I. serving with the 210th AERO Squadron, U.S. Army, in England. He was the builder and operator of refrigeration plants in Maryland and North Carolina, retiring about 25years ago. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Jan. 20. in Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Larry Fourinan, his pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Pipe Creek Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The New Windsor Funeral Home of D.D. Hartzler is in charge of arrangements.
