      Mary E. Shade, 93, formerly of Reading, died June 22, 2008, in St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township.
      She was taken to the medical center from Golden Ridge, Robesonia, where she had resided five years.

      She was the widow of Frederick D. Shade, who died Dec. 22, 2002.

      Born in Minersville, she was a daughter of the late Charles H. and Sarah R. (Zapf) Schwartz.

      She worked at Curtis-Stephens-Embry Co. Inc., Reading, for 32 years,

      She was a member of Reading Moravian Church, where she sang in the choir and was past president of King's Daughters, Sunday school superintendent and leader of Girl Scout Troop 64 and Camp Fire Girls.

      Surviving are three sons: Wellington A. Hiester Jr., Beaufort, S.C.; Ronald N. Hiester, Florence, S.C.; and Richard K. Hiester, Oley.

      Other survivors include a sister, Florence Krick, Reading.

      There are also 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

      She was predeceased by a daughter, Joyce M. Fenstermaker; and a brother, William Schwartz.

      Graveside services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Forest Hills Memorial Park.

      In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions may be made to Reading Moravian Church, 1116 Perry St., Reading, PA 19604. Sanders Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 1501 N. 11th St., Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
